October Has Arrived!

Mr. Jurewicz and Mr. Kooiker…pre-dunking photo!

Our fifth week of school welcomes in the month of October.  The weather will be beautiful which means another week of outdoor recess and if all goes well, outdoor PE classes.  We love it when our playground is dry and we can enjoy Michigan fall weather.

Thank you to everyone who supported our TREK for TECH walkathon this past week.  I should know the total earnings by FRIDAY of this week….along with the names of all the winners.  As soon as I have any news to share, I will broadcast it on the blog!

If you attended the HEF activities before the homecoming game on Friday, you were able to see Mr. Kooiker and Mr. Jurewicz get dunked by some amazing Georgetown kids.  I have added photos to our slideshow which runs all the time (on the right sidebar).  You’ll find photos of them dry and wet–along with a few photos of the kids who managed to send them for a swim.

The week ahead brings fire safety classes for grades kindergarten and fourth.  Firefighter Al and his officers will bring their trucks and gear to help us learn important strategies for being safe at home and at school.

We also have another Pizza Night competition—this week being Jet’s.  Order a pizza on Tuesday and remember to give your child’s class name (teacher name).  The class with the most pizza’s purchased will win a pizza lunch at school.

Here’s to a great week!

Art Prize, Art Prize What Did I See?

I saw beautiful art and people looking at me!  While walking around downtown Grand Rapids look at the amazing art, I ran into some amazing Georgetown friends…who were also visiting Art Prize 2012.  If you haven’t visited the exhibits yet, put it on your short list of things to do.  And…take your camera and your smiles!

See if you can find these families in the my photo collage above:  VanderPloeg, Kelly/Green, Waters-Umfleet and O’Brien.

Fun Fest: September 28 @ 4:30 pm

Please join us to help the HEF raise money for programs within our district.  At 4:30 you will have the opportunity to dunk Mr. Jurewicz or Mr. Kooiker in the dunk tank!

The Hudsonville Education Foundation (HEF) is an organization that supports teaching and learning in Hudsonville Public Schools. The HEF is managed by Hudsonville community members that want to give back to the school system. Funds raised through this non-profit 501C3 organization go directly to teacher mini-grants that positively impact student learning. Please join us for our First Annual HEF Family Fun Fest before and during the HUDSONVILLE vs. Grandville football game on September 24. At 4:30 there will be a dunk tank (where you will be able to dunk someone from your school), inflatables, and face painting. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction. Please come and support the HEF!Throughout the 2010-2011 school year, Hudsonville Public School staff will be gathering community data to help guide the district’s long range strategic plan. Parents, students, and community residents may be asked to participate in focus groups and surveys. The purpose of this community research is to identify Hudsonville Public Schools strengths and areas of focus. Gathering the input of our community will also make certain the district core mission continues to be aligned with our greater community. More information regarding this process can be found at our district’s website (www.hudsonville.k12.mi.us/HPS) . Thank you in advanced for your assistance in this process.

Marco’s Pizza Winner

Mrs. VanderStel’s class has won a pizza lunch from Marco’s!  How did they do this?  Their class ordered the most pizza’s on September 19 — our Georgetown Marco’s Pizza Night.  With every pizza ordered, a portion goes toward our PTC funds.  These funds help to support parent/child activities, frame art work, build our library with better books, etc.

The next Pizza Night is Tuesday, October 2:  JET’S PIZZA.  Order pizza for dinner and give your school and teacher name so your child’s class has a shot at a pizza lunch.

Congrats to Mrs. VanderStel’s Class!

Georgetown Makes Millionaires

If you have ever dreamed of being a millionaire, now is your chance.  All students will have the opportunity to become a member of this club if they succeed in reading for 1,000,000 words this school year.

As a member of the MILLION WORDs club, each member will have their name on the MILLIONAIRE’s BOARD (display case in our rotunda) and receive a very cool, totally awesome t-shirt.  Each student must keep track of the total words read on this form:  Million word club form.

Completed forms are turned into Mrs. VandenBerg (Librarian), our school librarian.

Links to help you calculate words in books are found on the right under READING COUNTs.  Quick links can be found here:  Ren Learningand   Scholastic e-Catalog.

Week 4…Walk A Thon Time!

Throughout this week,  you will hear updates on the top earning classes for our TREK for TECH Walk-A-Thon (Wed Sept 26).  We will make an announcement at the end of each day sharing the top three classes with the final winning class announced one week from Monday.

The winning class (most money raised for our 2012 Trek for Tech Walk-A-Thon) will take a limo ride to a local pizza restaurant for lunch.

To help track the totals, we are encouraging students to enter their daily total in this walk-a-thon survey.  Enter once per day—and we will use this to estimate lead classes.  Thank you for your donations for our only MAJOR PTC fundraiser for the 2012-13 school year.

We will have two blue/gold days this week…one on Wednesday for our Walk-A-Thon and one on Friday, Homecoming Day.  This is also the day that you can come to the FUN FEST at Eagle’s Stadium to Dunk Mr. Kooiker and Mr. Jurewicz!  Be there at 4:30 pm and help raise money for the Hudsonville Education Foundation.

A snapshot of our school calendar is below.  Enjoy the remainder of your weekend.
