Week 6: MEAP Testing Begins

Throughout the state of Michigan, all students in grades 3-9 are taking state academic tests called the MEAP.  The tests take place over three weeks.  This is a high pressure, high stress and high stakes test.   The daily test schedule is mandated by  the State Department of Education.  If you have a child in grades 3-5, please pay attention to the testing schedule listed on the class blog.  If you have a question about the test schedule, contact the teacher via phone or email.

Our week ends with SPIRIT DAY…also the Hudsonville Education Foundation Fundraiser and Homecoming Game.  Mrs. Stadt and Mr. Kooiker will be representing Georgetown in the HEF DUNK TANK event.  If you want to dunk them, show up at EAGLE’S STADIUM at 4:45 pm.    Also…Friday is the day to wear BLUE AND GOLD!

Walk•A•THON Results will be announced early in the week.  It takes time to count all the money…and make sure that the right classrooms and students get the credit they deserve.  The money counting and collecting process falls on the shoulders of our two treasurers, Krista Lawrence and Cheryl Havens.  THANK YOU Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs. Havens for your help.

Have a great week!

October Has Arrived!

Mr. Jurewicz and Mr. Kooiker…pre-dunking photo!

Our fifth week of school welcomes in the month of October.  The weather will be beautiful which means another week of outdoor recess and if all goes well, outdoor PE classes.  We love it when our playground is dry and we can enjoy Michigan fall weather.

Thank you to everyone who supported our TREK for TECH walkathon this past week.  I should know the total earnings by FRIDAY of this week….along with the names of all the winners.  As soon as I have any news to share, I will broadcast it on the blog!

If you attended the HEF activities before the homecoming game on Friday, you were able to see Mr. Kooiker and Mr. Jurewicz get dunked by some amazing Georgetown kids.  I have added photos to our slideshow which runs all the time (on the right sidebar).  You’ll find photos of them dry and wet–along with a few photos of the kids who managed to send them for a swim.

The week ahead brings fire safety classes for grades kindergarten and fourth.  Firefighter Al and his officers will bring their trucks and gear to help us learn important strategies for being safe at home and at school.

We also have another Pizza Night competition—this week being Jet’s.  Order a pizza on Tuesday and remember to give your child’s class name (teacher name).  The class with the most pizza’s purchased will win a pizza lunch at school.

Here’s to a great week!

The Hudsonville Education Foundation (HEF) is an organization that supports teaching and learning in Hudsonville Public Schools. Funds raised through this non-profit 501C3 organization go directly to teacher mini-grants that positively impact student learning. Please join us for our First Annual HEF Family Fun Fest before and during the HUDSONVILLE vs. Grandville football game on September 24. At 4:30 there will be a dunk tank (where you will be able to dunk someone from your school), inflatables, and face painting. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction. Please come and support the HEF!Throughout the 2010-2011 school year, Hudsonville Public School staff will be gathering community data to help guide the district’s long range strategic plan. Parents, students, and community residents may be asked to participate in focus groups and surveys. The purpose of this community research is to identify Hudsonville Public Schools strengths and areas of focus. Gathering the input of our community will also make certain the district core mission continues to be aligned with our greater community. More information regarding this process can be found at our district’s website (www.hudsonville.k12.mi.us/HPS) . Thank you in advanced for your assistance in this process.

DUNK TANK FRIDAY

Looking for some family fun for Friday evening (September 23)?  How about heading to Eagle’s Stadium for fun family activities prior to our home football game?

The activities are being sponsored by the Hudsonville Education Foundation and designed to raise money to support classroom educational grants.

A very popular event is the DUNK TANK.  Georgetown will have three teachers representing our school:  Mr. Bialochowski, Mr. Kooiker and Mr. Jurewicz.  They will be taking five minute shifts in the DUNK TANK from 5:30-5:45.  Come on over to cheer them on…or dunk them.  Of course, I will be taking photos for the blog!

Last year, our teacher representative was Miss Taber!  She was dunked for 15 minutes straight in very, very cold weather!  The weather this coming Friday looks to be much better than last year.  Hope to see you there!

REMEMBER:

FRIDAY IS GO EAGLES DAY!  WEAR BLUE AND GOLD TO SCHOOL!

Dunk Tank Fun

Many thanks to everyone who came out to the Dunk Tank yesterday. This was just one of the pre-game fundraising activities sponsored by the Hudsonville Education Foundation.  Miss Taber represented our school, managing to hit the water at least ten times.  We learned that many of our students have great aim and strong arms–in particular Miss Taber’s first grade students.  It is important to note that the Plumert family gets their dunk tank skills from their mom who, like her sons,  was successful in dunking  Miss Taber!

You can see photos of the dunk tank activity here.  Enjoy!

The week ahead: 9•20•2010

We are embarking on our third week of school already!  We continue to work on routines and climate–helping everyone feel welcomed and an equal part of our learning community.

If you have any questions about procedures (learning, recess, lunch), please make sure you contact your child’s teacher.  If you discover that your child is not eating his/her lunch at school, it is very important that you let the teacher know.  We provide extra time to any child who needs more time to eat—and also very discreetly check on children who might not be eating well during lunch time.  As soon as you let your child’s teacher know of your concern, we alert the lunch staff and make sure that we support your child during lunch time.

say cheeseThe week ahead begins with “Saying Cheese!”  Picture Days are on Monday and Tuesday of this week.

We end the week with a Family Fun Festival, sponsored by the Hudsonville Education Foundation.  This will be held from 5-7 pm at the Baldwin Campus Stadium…and serve as a pre-game activity.  The money raised from this event will go toward the foundation which funds teacher grants.

Each school in our district has a “DUNK TANK” representative. The dunk tankGeorgetown representative is Miss Taber, one of our first grade teachers!  We will be cheering her on.  Stop by to see her in the dunk tank from 5:50 to 6 pm.

A snapshot of events from our school calendar is below.  You can look ahead on our calendar by visiting the sidebar to the right.

Have a great week!
