MAY 3 BOND ELECTION for HPS

We are so fortunate to be in a school community which is growing. Over the past 5 years, Hudsonville Public Schools has grown by 604 students. This trend is not new to Hudsonville as our enrollment has almost tripled over the last 25 years.  In an effort to address the need for additional classroom space, our Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution to go before voters with a bond request. The proposal to be voted on May 3 calls for:
•New 9+ building on the existing high school site
•New South Elementary located on Greenly Street
•New competition pool and fine arts auditorium
•New transportation facility
•Reconfiguring the Freshman Campus to an Early Childhood Center
•Technology upgrades to all school buildings
•Athletic upgrades at Baldwin, Riley, and High School
Since the district is part of the School Bond Revolving Fund (SBRF), which the state makes available to rapidly growing districts, we will be able to build the facilities and improvements WITHOUT a millage increase. Currently, the districts levies 7.0 mills for debt retirement and the rate will remain at 7.0 mills. The total cost of the proposal will be $82,000,000.00. If you have questions please visit our website, www.hudsonvillepublicschools.org or call our superintendent, Nick Ceglarek, 616-669-1740 ext 1.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO GET OUT AND VOTE ON TUESDAY, MAY 3!!!! THANK YOU

Weekly Events for our 31st Week of the Year

April is drawing to a close this week.  I, personally,  have decided that we have had enough April showers and it is time for May to arrive!  This has to be my favorite piece of advice from a West Michigan weather forecaster:  “If you are looking for a dry day in the upcoming week, your two best options will be Sunday and Friday.”

The days get busier as we wrap up this month and head into May.  This week we have our district wide Art Show. Mrs. Brouwer created as great video featuring the set up of the art show and just a few of the pieces that will be honored.  Many, many more can be seen when you stop by Park Elementary this coming week, 9-5.  Georgetown Artists will have a special reception on Tuesday, April 26 from 5:30-7:30 pm.

If you have not yet completed your child’s profile form to help us with class placements, please do so by May 1.  Information about this survey can be found here:  SURVEY FOR CLASS PLACEMENTS

Here’s to a fabulous final week of April!

The 2011 Art Show is THIS WEEK!

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

I want to encourage you to visit Park Elementary to take in the incredible student art work on display.  The art show highlights artists from our PK-12 district program and the pieces are jaw dropping.  You can visit Park any day this week from Monday – Thursday, during the day or between 8-4.

We have several artists from our school being featured.  On Tuesday evening (5:30-7:30), we will hold a special reception for our Georgetown artists.  To view the list of artists featured, check this web page link.

If you have not followed the wonderful, fantastic blog updates by Mrs. Brouwer--a most incredible art teacher, this needs to be on your must do list for the rainy days ahead.  Mrs. Brouwer showcases the work, learning and art pieces of her young learners throughout the year on her blog.

A NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT………. Over the past several years the number of students attending  Hudsonville Public Schools has grown significantly.  During the past eighteen months we have been exploring options to address this growth.  Following a lengthy process of study and community input, the Board of Education unanimously approved a bond proposal to bring to the voters.  While this request does not raise the millage rate, it is a comprehensive approach to addressing the needs of our growing K-12 student population.

Please join us for a community gathering to review this proposal that will go before the voters on May 3, 2011.   Location: Hudsonville High School Auditorium  (5037 32nd Ave)   Date: Tuesday, April 19.    Time: 7:00pm.  Thank you!
