Happy Friday afternoon Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……… Wow, was that not cool to have a snow day this week?!  I absolutely love them and hopefully we can possibly squeak out one more this year!  One day this week we had to have inside recess because of the temperatures, but we love it when the kids can go out and play.  Just as a reminder on how we determine whether it will be outside/inside recess……. we log on to Wood TV8’s website and they have a weather station right next door at Daybreak Church.  This tells us the temperature and wind chill.  The ONLY time the students stay inside is when the windchill is BELOW ZERO.  We monitor this in the morning and before every recess, so please just make sure your kids have the appropriate outdoor wear for recess.

We still seem to be having an issue with a lot of tardy students in the morning.  Please, we are asking on your part that you get your students to school on time when you are dropping them off.  If they arrive late from the bus, this is not marked as a tardy.  As a reminder the first bell rings at 8:45am and the second bell at 8:50am, which is when the students should be settled in their class.  When students are on time this makes attendance MUCH easier for the teachers AND the  office.  Thank you.

KINDERGARTEN PACKETS/ROUND UP………..  We now have Kindergarten packets available in the office to pick up.  Kindergarten Round Up will be held atGeorgetown on Tuesday, February 26 at 7pm.  Please remember that it is NOT a first come/first serve basis as far as turning in your registrations.  We will not be holding PK at Georgetown next year.  Our students that request PK will be going to Bauer.  Your child should be 5 on or before NOVEMBER 1 this year to enter EITHER PK or Kindergarten.  IF your child turns 5 between NOVEMBER 2 AND DECEMBER 1you will need to fill out a WAIVER in order for them to attend PK or K.  These WAIVERS will be attached to the Kindergarten registrations.  You ONLY need to fill out the waiver if your child turns 5 BETWEEN the dates of NOVEMBER 2 AND DECEMBER 1, 2013.

Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……..  We had another good week here at Georgetown.  We are just hoping for some snow to come soon so recess will be a little more exciting!!  Hopefully next week!  : )  We do have one issue that we would like to address with parents.  Since we have returned from our Holiday Break we are seeing a TON of students arriving late to school.  The first bell in the morning rings at 8:45am and the second bell rings at 8:50am, which is when the students should be all settled in their classrooms!  We (being the teachers AND the office) would really appreciate if your students were here and settled by 8:50.  It is much harder for attendance for the teachers and makes the attendance take much longer in the office if we are calling on all of the late students.

KINDERGARTEN PACKETS/ROUND UP………..  We now have Kindergarten packets available in the office to pick up.  Kindergarten Round Up will be held at Georgetown on Tuesday, February 26 at 7pm. IF your child turns 5 between NOVEMBER 2 AND DECEMBER 1 you will need to fill out a WAIVER in order for them to attend PK or K.  These WAIVERS will be attached to the Kindergarten registrations.  You ONLY need to fill out the waiver if your child turns 5 BETWEEN the dates of NOVEMBER 2 AND DECEMBER 1, 2013.

Happy Friday the 13th Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE…… We are hoping that everyone had a great Spring Break.  Now we are all rejuvenated for the remainder of the school year!  With that being said, it is hard to believe we only have 8 WEEKS of school remaining.  Hold on tight because it will fly by!!  Just a couple of things directly from the office, OTC and prescription meds and snacks.  Medications….. MUST be brought to school by a PARENT, NOT a student!  We also have to have a medication form filled out in order to dispense these.  If it is a prescription med the form MUST be completed by a physician.  These forms are here in the office or you can find them online.  As far as snacks go we seem to be having a lot of students come down due to forgetting their snacks for morning break.  We do keep snacks in the office for special circumstances, however lately we have been flying through them due to students just forgetting.  We appreciate your help at home with this matter.  Thank you!

BIKES/RIPSTICKS/ETC…….  With spring along come bikes and ripsticks!  With that being said, PLEASE REMEMBER to send a note with your child to their teacher giving them permission to ride/walk/ripstick home.  Unless you have done so, the teacher will be required to send them home however they normally get home, such as the bus!  Thank you for your help in this matter  : )

SPENCER MEYER BENEFIT EVENTS…….  As many of you know, Spencer Meyer is a very special Kindergarten student here at Georgetown in Mrs. Estefan’s class and his parents, Jason and Jodi, are also staff members within the district.  Spencer is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and in March the family was informed that the cancer had returned in his spine.   The entire district is helping to raise money for the SPENCER MEYER BENEFIT FUND and we have a few things to let you know about.  These are great ways to help the family in this time of need!!

BENEFIT BASKETBALL GAME…….. will be held Friday, April 27 at 7:00pm at the High School.  This will be great night of fun for everyone!!  The game will be between the staff at Baldwin Middle and Riley Middle.  It will be the “Baldwin Street Ballers vs. Riley Street Rim-Rattlers”!  Doors will open at 6:30pm and entrance fees will be a VOLUNTARY DONATION to the Spencer Meyer Fundraiser!  Please come out and join us to show your support for the Meyer family!  Lots of fun things and the Eagle’s Landing will be selling $1.00 Squishees (slushees), there will be Jet’s Pizza, Jimmy John’s, pop and candy!  What could be better?!  So MARK your calendars for FRIDAY, APRIL 27!!

Fliers for this event should have come  home with your YOUNGEST/AND OR ONLY STUDENT.  I am also attaching it here in the blog.   TEAM SPENCER kids sign up sheet 2  Please read the attached flier or the one sent home with your student for ALL of the details.  This will be a donation for the Spencer Meyer Benefit Fund through sponsorship of runners and individual donations.  There will be a form coming home through PE for FREE REGISTRATION for the children’s events!  You may also order t-shirts on this form. Happy Spring Break Georgetown Parents!!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE…….  Well we made it!!  Spring Break is here!!  Yes, I know the day is not over, but I look at it this way…. we showed up today so officially we have made it to Spring Break!  What a day we had!  The Talent Show was fabulous as usual and the kids are really excited about having a few days off.  Remember that school resumes on Monday, April 9 and the first Friday we are back to school, which is Friday, April 13, that will be a TUESDAY/THURSDAY PK/K day!

LUNCH INFORMATION……… Here is the April lunch menu and a new deposit slip if you need one.   April 2012 Hud Elem     Menu Deposit Slip

BIKES/RIPSTICKS/ETC…….  Wow have we had a full bike rack this week!!  This warm weather sure does bring out the bikes and ripsticks.  With that being said, PLEASE REMEMBER to send a note with your child to their teacher giving them permission to ride/walk/ripstick home.  Unless you have done so, the teacher will be required to send them home however they normally get home, such as the bus!  Thank you for your help in this matter  : )

STUDENT DROP OFF……..    We have been noticing a HUGE increase in the amount of students being dropped off in the back of the school by the bus loop and the Middle School parking lot.  For student safety reasons we MUST have ALL students dropped off in front of Georgetown in the CIRCLE DRIVE.  The students are then able to walk around the building on the sidewalks to their playground.  Thank you for adhering to this safety rule.

ENTRANCE DRIVE SAFETY…….  As some of you are aware,  we had our first accident at the entrance to Georgetown/Baldwin Middle this week.  The car was attempting to make a left hand turn ONTO Baldwin St and was hit by an oncoming car.  Everyone was ok with minor cuts/bruises, none the less, a scary situation.  We are asking that during the busy drop-off and pick-up times that parents use the service drive by the athletic stadiums if you are needing to make a left hand turn onto Baldwin St.  This way you will come to an intersection with a traffic light.

One more thing in regards to the entrance drive…….. we have a huge concern for student safety here.  Cars are pulling into the drive and exiting the school at a high rate of speed.  This is becoming a safety concern more so now due to the amount of students walking/riding bikes to school.  PLEASE SLOW DOWN as you enter/exit the school drive!!  Thank you!  Remember it is for the safety of the students  : )

HURRY IN!!  : )

BLOG BITS 3/23/12

Happy Friday Afternoon Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……. Well we had another great week of weather, even though today is a little soggy.  Rain is needed too though : )  Can you believe it….. only 4 more school days until Spring Break!!  With that being said just a reminder there will NO SCHOOL next Friday, March 30!!  This will be the first day of Spring Break.  For PK/K parents please remember the first Friday back to school after Spring Break will be Friday, April 13 and that will be a TUESDAY/THURSDAY Friday!!

BIBLE CLUB…….  This was finished this past Monday, March 19.  So please remember not to have them stay after school on Monday, March 26.  Thank You  : )

GEORGETOWN JOGGERS…….. At 9:00am tomorrow morning there will be 18 Georgetown Joggers running in the EAGLE 5K, which is a 3 mile race.  We wish them all GOOD LUCK and a great race!!  : )  Here are the Georgetown Joggers…Sarah Cook, Nathan Conkel, Luke Ellermets, Patrick and Peter Estefan (and Mom), Brad and Kensley Huizenga, Bretton Jahnke, Saige Jeltema, Zachary Kuieck, Mikayla Meyer, Bryce Morningstar, Emmalee Murphy, Ezra and Lorenzo Roerig, Tyler Sheldon, Will Smit, Tom Stutz (and Mom), Claire Telfor, Brayden Vredeveld, Jordan and Kayla Wolma!

TEAM SPENCER….. Fliers for this event will be coming home with your YOUNGEST/AND OR ONLY STUDENT. Once again this is a great way to help out the Meyer Family!!

ZOX Staps…….  These are really cool bracelets that we are selling to benefit Spencer Meyer AND Jarod/Caleb Mulder.  Jarod and Caleb are also students in the district and attend Park Elementary.  Mr. Mulder is ALSO an employee of the district just as the Meyer’s are!  Jarod and Caleb have a disorder called MPS3A.  These bracelets are being sold for ONLY $7 each in the office and all of the proceeds are going directly back to the families!!  Stop by the office and get one!!  We have a limited amount and when they are gone we can not get any more.  HURRY IN!!  : )

12th ANNUAL STUDENT ART SHOW…….. Save The Date!  The 12th Annual Student Art Show is just around the corner!  Hudsonville’s annual art show includes masterpieces from students throughout the district, including 100 pieces from our Georgetown artists.  The show runs April 23 through 26 at the Park Elementary Community Room.  There will be a special artist reception for Georgetown students Tuesday, April 24 from 5:30-7:30 PM.  Please check out the attached flyer that will be up in all of the schools to promote this great event.  2012 Flyer-Blog PDF

GEORGETOWN  TALENT SHOW……..  The Talent Show will be on THURSDAY, MARCH 29 and there will be two shows; 9:15am and 1:15pm.  If you would like any further information or have any questions please visit Mrs. Bretz’s Blog.

BLOG BITS from the OFFICE 4/16/10

Good Friday Afternoon Georgetown Parents!  I hope everyone enjoyed their Spring break!  I know we did hear at school, but were happy to get back in the swing of things, but we HAVE started the countdown to summer vacation!  WOO-HOO!!  : )

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

BIKE RIDERS, WALKERS, RIP-STICK RIDERS, ETC………  If your child is coming to school by another means of transportation other than the school bus we need you to make sure that they are not arriving to school too early.   We do not have crossing guards and playground supervision available for these students when they arrive too early.  Students should not be getting to school before 8:30am.  It may even take a “test” run with parents to see how long it will take for the students to get to school via another means of transsportation to make sure they are not leaving home too early.   One other reminder if you would pass it on to your children….. please ask them not to ride through the parking lot by the stores on Baldwin.  They should be using the sidewalk only.  We are just afraid that someone may be hit by a car while crossing through the parking lot!   Thank you for help with these areas of concern.

END OF DAY CHANGES…… If you need to make an end of the day change for your student/students please make sure you either send a note with the student in the morning, or contact the office by 2:30 if possible.  The end of the day is very hectic here and sometimes it is hard to reach the teachers to give them last minute changes!  Some classes are at specials, others are at recess, and most importantly teachers are not able to check their email at the end of the day to check for messages about changes.  This would be greatly appreciated by the office and teaching staff if you could help us out with this.  Thank you!

BOX TOP WINNERS…..  Classroom winners were as follows:  K/1 Winner- Bohl;  2/3 Winner-Quigley; 4/5 Winner-Bouwens.  Individual winners were as follows:  k/1-Dylan Ham and Tessa VanKampen; 2/3- Maxim Perez and Taylor Sytsma; 4/5- Jack Nurenberg and Marissa Bekkering.   Classrooms were rewarded with a small treat and the indivdual winners were rewarded with a small prize also.  Way to go guys!

GEORGETOWN SCHOOL CARNIVAL……. Our spring carnival will be held on Saturday, May 15 from 11am to 2pm.  In order to participate in the games and bounce house, etc the children will need to have a wristband.  Any child over 2 years of age will be required to have a wristband to participate.  Wristbands purchassed in advance will be $10 and if you purchase the day of the wristband will be $15.  The pre-sale ends MAY 7TH. Wristbands will be handed out to those you pre-ordered on or before May 14.  Please make checks payable to Georgetown PTC.  If you have any questions please contact Susie Coxen at 669-3662 or Stacey Alexander at 914-6896.

4th GRADE NEWS….  Just a reminder that they will be going on a Symphony field trip next Wednesday, April 21.  If you have any questions about this please contact the teacher or visit their blog.

4th Graders will also be starting their swimming lessons on MONDAY, APRIL 26.  This will go until May 7.  Please make sure your student is prepared for this on that Monday.  Please remember a towel, and swim suit, and most important of all….. don’t forget to send the “unmentionables” if the student wears their suit to school underneath their clothing.  The office always has to make many phone calls for such things when swimming starts.  We appreciate your planning ahead for this!  : )

5th GRADE NEWS….  Wow are things moving along at a rapid pace for these 5th graders.  Before you know it they will be Middle Schoolers!  YIKES!!

Band meetings for parents and students will be held on April 21/22.  Please make sure you attend one of these important meetings.  COURSE SELECTIONS are due back to your child’s teacher by April 28. Please make sure to return these on time as the Middle School needs these to get things rolling for schedules for next year.  Lastly, May 3 is the parent Sixth Grade Orientation night at Baldwin Middle School.  Please make sure and mark your calendars for these important upcoming dates.  Remember to enjoy this time with your 5th grader, it will be busy, but very fun and exciting for them!  : )

PTC NEWS….  PTC is looking for nominations for the following positions:  Co-Treasurer and Vice President.  Please send in your nominations to the current PTC members.    You may email these to Kristi Fellows at ioniagal@att.net or Jamie Ham at Cjham20@comcast.net.  Thank you for your thoughts and consideration in this matter.

COMMUNITY ED NEWS….  no new activities at this time.  Make to watch however for the brochures for the upcoming Summer Activites to be coming home with the students around the end of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS…..  TASTE OF HUDSONVILLE……. On Saturday, May 1st the Hudsonville Band Boosters will be sponsoring “Taste of Hudsonville” in the Hudsonville High School gymnasium from 2-5pm.  This community-wide event will showcase a variety of area restaurants as well as the instrumental music talent of the Hudsonville Band program.  In addition to great food and music, a large silent auction and 50/50 raffle will be held.  Tickets for the event can be purchased daily in the Hudsonville High School office, in the high school lobby on Mondays from 5-6pm and at Lake Michigan Credit Union on 32nd Ave. beginning Monday, April 12th.  Advanced sale tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under  ($12 for adults and $6 for children at the door).

CHILDREN’S LEUKEMIA FOUNDATION EVENT…….The Walk: Grand Rapids, Sixth Street Bridge Park     Date: May 1, 2010    Time: Registration – 9 a.m. The Walk – 10 a.m.    Route: Scenic 3-mile walk through Downtown Grand Rapids   $20 pre-registration fee. $25 day-of registration fee.  The Walk will provide food, refreshments, and entertainment.  For more information contact, Kelli at 248-530-3009 or kzgieb@leukemiamichigan.org

This is it for now.  Have a great weekend!

This upcoming week, we have a busy instructional schedule!  The 3rd and 5th grade students will be taking standardized tests (Iowa and CoGat).  Our fourth and fifth grade have field trips.  Check the list below for dates this week.  Check the school calendar to the right for upcoming dates.
