HAPPY THURSDAY GEORGETOWN PARENTS!  (How is that for a change?)

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……..Well we had a very good week here at Georgetown.  The Hope-Liverpool students were here for the week, so ask your students if they got to spend any time with them while they were here.  I think the students really enjoy having them around.  Our 5th Graders got off to camp without a hitch.  However, due to the lovely weather we have had they may be covered in mosquito bites from head to toe but I am sure they still had a GREAT time!  It is something they will never forget.  : )

PK/K LETTERS……. Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!  bunny17

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……. Well Spring Break is over and man did it go FAST!!  Looking at the calendar April here at school is fairly quiet, but hold on  tight because May is going to be busy!!!  Then before you know it school is done!  Soooo on that note, I say lets count down the school days until summer vacation……..  38 days!!  : )

SCHOOL CALENDAR……. I am attaching the school calendar for the upcoming school year of 2011/2012.  I know this seems way too soon to think about this already, however, I know some people like to plan ahead for vacations.  So here you go…..  Student-11-12-revised

A NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT………. Over the past several years the number of students attending  Hudsonville Public Schools has grown significantly.  During the past eighteen months we have been exploring options to address this growth.  Following a lengthy process of study and community input, the Board of Education unanimously approved a bond proposal to bring to the voters.  While this request does not raise the millage rate, it is a comprehensive approach to addressing the needs of our growing K-12 student population.

Please join us for a community gathering to review this proposal that will go before the voters on May 3, 2011.   Location: Hudsonville High School Auditorium  (5037 32nd Ave)   Date: Tuesday, April 19.    Time: 7:00pm.  Thank you!

MAY 3 BOND ELECTION……. We are so fortunate to be in a school community which is growing. Over the past 5 years, Hudsonville Public Schools has
grown by 604 students. This trend is not new to Hudsonville as our enrollment has almost tripled over the last 25 years.  In an effort to address the need for additional classroom space, our Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution to go before voters with a bond request. The proposal to be voted on May 3 calls for:
•New 9+ building on the existing high school site
•New South Elementary located on Greenly Street
•New competition pool and fine arts auditorium
•New transportation facility
•Reconfiguring the Freshman Campus to an Early Childhood Center
•Technology upgrades to all school buildings
•Athletic upgrades at Baldwin, Riley, and High School
Since the district is part of the School Bond Revolving Fund (SBRF), which the state makes available to rapidly growing districts, we will be able to build the facilities and improvements without a millage increase. Currently, the districts levies  7.0 mills for debt retirement and the rate will remain at 7.0 mills. The total cost of the proposal will be $82,000,000.00. If  you have questions please visit our website, www.hudsonvillepublicschools.org or call our superintendent, Nick Ceglarek,  616-669-1740 ext 1.

YEARBOOKS…….. Your student should have brought home their yearbooks home this week.  The Office just wants to let you know that we have “extra” yearbooks for sale in the office.  These will be sold for $10 per yearbook. They will be available on a first come, first serve basis.  If you will be writing a check, please make it payable to “GEORGETOWN ELEMENTARY”.

SPRING ART SHOW ………. Save the date!  The 2011 Hudsonville Student Art Show is just around the corner!  There will be a special reception for Georgetown Artists on Tuesday, April 26 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Check out the flyer… 2011FlyerPDF and visit Mrs. Brouwer’s Art Room Blog for more information about the art show!

HAPPY LAST FRIDAY BEFORE SPRING BREAK!!!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE…….. Well we had a pretty uneventful week here at Georgetown.  Now don’t take that wrong……. that is not a bad thing!  Just smooth sailing!  : )   Drum roll please…… ONLY 4 more school days until Spring Break! YIPPEE ~~~~    One more thing, DO NOT FORGET about our 5th Grade fundraiser breakfast this Saturday at Vitale’s!  You may purchase tickets at the door for $7 each.  It will be held from 9am to 11 am.

TALENT SHOW NEWS…….. Remember this will be next Thursday, March 31.  If your child will be performing you will receive something home to let you know at which performance they will be in.  We are having two shows, one at 9:15 am and one at 1:15 pm.  Also do not forget that if you are unable to make  this, Mrs. Reagan records both shows and posts them on our school blog so you will not have miss it!

BLOG BITS 2/17/11

Good Thursday afternoon to all of you!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE………. YIPPEE, Winter Break is here!  Take this long weekend to get out and have some fun with your family!  Things were good here this week at school.  We started off the week with a very BUSY Monday!  Valentine’s Day.  The office would also like to inform you that the stomach flu and strep is going through the school right now, so be aware if your child says their stomach is upset or throat is sore!

WEATHER REMINDER….. PLEASE remember that it will get COLD again so we are informing you again of our outdoor policy.  We want to inform the parents of Georgetown on how our OUTDOOR recess policy works.  We know that many of you have been watching the weather lately and keeping track of the air and windchill temperatures.  We want you to rest at ease that we do check the air AND windchill temperatures in the morning before school AND at recess times.  We are able to get the ACTUAL temperature and the windchill factor right HERE  at Georgetown.  We have a “Weatherbug” device attached to the school and we log into this and it gives us the temperature and windchill temperature.  The RULE we use here at school is that IF the AIR temperature OR the WINDCHILL is BELOW ZERO we let them in before school and will keep them in at recess time.  Thanks for understanding this policy and remember the students DO NEED to get out and get some fresh air and be able to run around, so therefor, make sure they are prepared for outside recess!  Thank you! : )

KINDERGARTEN INFO……. Kindergarten Round-Up will be held on Tuesday, March 8 at 7pm. Please feel free to click the following links for the k registration and the health appraisal.
