Welcome Back Georgetown Parents! winter24letitsnow-th

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE………. We are hoping that everyone enjoyed their extended Holiday break!!  That might be longest break ever!!  With that being said….. it is really nice that we have snow so the kids can be outside and play.  : )  It was nice starting back with a three day week last week, but man it was a little tough doing five whole days this week!  Do not be surprised if your children are worn out this weekend!!  January is a pretty quiet month over all so there is not much happening at school this month.  Just trying to get back in to the swing of things.  Please try and enjoy the calmness : )

WINTER WEATHER………. Just a friendly reminder that we DO NOT keep students in from recess or before school starts unless the temperature or wind chill is BELOW 0 degrees.  We keep a close eye on this is the office so we are making sure the students are safe.  : )   With this being said we started noticing this trend  before break and it has been increasing since we have returned to school that a lot of students want to enter the building before the first bell rings at 8:45am.  Unless the temperature/windchill is BELOW 0 degrees or it is raining the students MUST go around from the circle drive to their playgrounds.  Please make sure your students come prepared for the chilly weather in the morning to be out on their playgrounds.  If students arrive before 8:45am they will be sent around to their playground.  : )   If you, as a parent, are coming into the building for any reason your child is welcome to come in with you.  Thank you for abiding by these rules.

Rolling into a 2014 Routine!

We are hoping for a five day week of routine.  A week without an ice day, snow day, wind chill day and a polar vortex day.  As fun as snow days can be — every now and then — three in a row crimps our teaching and learning routine. So, kids…no more snow day tricks like ice cubes in the toilet and wearing  your PJ’s inside out because we have some catching up to do at school!

This week our fourth graders finish up their swimming lessons at the high school.  We also have another school pizza night — this time with Marco’s.  Remember….if you order a pizza, pass along the teacher’s name and your child’s class will get credit.  The orders are tallied by class and the winning class receives a pizza lunch at school.  This is one of the many fundraising events that our PTC board organizes.  All profits going toward supporting family and school events.

Remember to check your child’s class blog for events that are classroom specific.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Reagan

Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!!pump thumbs up

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE………. It is hard to believe but we are already in the end of October!!  SCARY! The MEAP testing is all done and they have been sent back for the official scoring.  I think the students AND the teachers are relieved this is over for another year!!  The students did a great job.  Hold on tight for a very busy week next week.  It starts MONDAY with the TURKEY TROT, WEDNESDAY with the COIN WAR CHALLENGE/UNIVERSITY APPAREL and THURSDAY with HALLOWEEN PARTIES!!  It will be a whirlwind and thank goodness we will have FRIDAY OFF to regroup after the busy week!  : )

SNOW DAY PROCEDURE FOR HOT LUNCH……….. With snow just around the corner, the food service program would like to remind parents and students about what will happen if school is closed due to weather. If the district is closed, the menu that was supposed to be served on the snow day will be moved to the next school day.  An example: if school is canceled on Tuesday due to weather, Tuesday’s menu will be served on Wednesday and the menu that was scheduled for Wednesday will be completely canceled.  Because of our computer lunch account system, there will be no need to issue credits and your student will still be able to order a lunch if they need one. The only exception to this policy is if school is canceled on Friday. In this case, Friday’s menu will be completely canceled and we will continue with the regular menu on Monday.  Information on what menu will be served on the day you return will be available on Twitter or the foodservice web page at www.jenhudfood.org. Please feel free to contact the food service department at 457-2400 if you have any questions or are unsure of what the menu will be. Thank you! ~ Stacey L. Wykoski, Food Service Director.

Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……….  Well can you believe it……. we have just finished our second week of school.  Some of the littler ones did notice it was a 5 day week.  They started getting a bit more tired by Thursday.  It is hard work coming to school 5 days a week!!  : )  The first two weeks here have gone exceptionally well.  We here in the office believe it is the smoothest start to the school year ever!  Way to go parents and students.  : )

SCHOOL PICTURES…….  Remember these are MONDAY!!!   Make sure the teeth are brushed and sparkly white and we are in our best attire  : )

CIRCLE DRIVE IN FRONT OF SCHOOL……… We apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing, but we no longer have enough room in our back bus loop!  Therefor this year we are going to be using the front circle drive as our second bus loop.  This means that you can no longer park here at the START or END of the school day.  The staff will be parking in the large lot so there should be ample parking in the small lot by the Kindergarten playground.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.  : )

SNACKS……… We are no longer able to get “extra” snacks from the local food pantry that was assisting us with this.  With that being said we are asking parents to make sure that your student comes to school each day with a snack.  Maybe even put a few extra ones in the backpack so if you or your student happens to forget to pack one they have an extra “stash” in their backpack.  One more helpful hint….. you can always pack snacks in the backpacks the night before.  : )  Thanks for the understanding in this matter.

NEW BUS RULES………  As you all should be aware…… there is a new transportation policy in affect this year and will continue to be a transportation policy in the future.  Students that require a BUS CHANGE for any reason must have a request put in to the Transportation Dept. by 10:00 AM the day of the change.  Parents will be notified by 1:00 PM  if the change was approved or denied.  Transportation will notify the school of the change.  DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL OFFICE……. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS PLEASE CONTACT TRANSPORTATION AT 669-7757.  You may FAX, SUBMIT ONLINE, or SCAN AND EMAIL the Bus Pass to Transportation.  ONLINE BUS PASS   PRINTABLE FORM TO FAX   (Transportation’s fax # 669-4876)  Scan or email the bus pass to Jane Bykerk at jbykerk@hpseagles.net   Thank you for your cooperation and patience with this new policy.  : )

P.E. NEWS……….  TURKEY TROT……. is fast approaching.  It will be held this year on Tuesday, October 29.  Please make sure to get this date on your calendar.  It is a great event for all of the students within the Hudsonville District.  The P.E. teachers are currently seeking our sponsors for this great event.  If you or someone you know would be willing to sponsor this great event please contact one of our P.E. teachers here at Georgetown.  Please contact either Mrs. VanKoevering or Mrs. Nienhuis by calling 797-9797, ext 22422 or emailing at tnienhui@hpseagles.net or mvankoev@hpseagles.net.
