Old to You…New to US!

All of the public schools in Michigan are operating under a budget created for the school year 2005.   To make ends meet, we have reduced our operating budget by 40%.

As a school, we have are going through drawers and closets at home and school to help make ends meet.

We are desperately in need of some items for our playground and classrooms.  If you can donate any of these gently used materials to us, we would be SO APPRECIATIVE!

  • RECESS BALLS:  FOOTBALLS, BASKETBALLS, KICK BALLS, SOCCER BALLS
  • DVD PLAYERS:  FOR USE IN OUR CLASSROOMS TO PROJECT MEDIA PROJECTS TO THE PROJECTOR AND TV.
In the category of NEW items:
  • CONSUMABLES such as KLEENEX, HAND SANITIZER and BAND AIDS.

Your Old Stuff Can Be Our New Stuff!

You may have heard that our school budget is squeaky tight…just like many of your home budgets.

Even though it is 2011, we are operating on per student funding for the 2005 school year.  We are doing more with less and spending more of our own money on consumable items like bandaids, hand sanitizer, pencils, pen, post it notes, and kleenex.

If you would ever care to send in consumable items like those listed above, your child’s teacher would probably do somersaults of joy!

We are also in need of a some gently used equipment that would help us immensely with instruction and play.  Please go through your home or your neighbor’s (although I do endorse knocking first) and see if you find any of the following to send our way:

DVD Players:  Ours are burning out.  We are in need of two to help teacher project their videos to the screen or tv.

Tripod:  We are need of two.  We video tape lessons and review these with one another (teachers) and we also share these with students who are home sick for many days.

RECESS BALLS:  Footballs, kick balls, soccer balls, basketballs.  BALLS!  We need balls for our playgrounds so that our children are happy!

Thank you for ANY ITEMS you can donate to help us during these tight times.

Mrs. Reagan (who also loves anything chocolate)

Health Tips for Parents from the Ottawa County Health Department

A study completed last spring by the Ottawa County Health Department found that about one out of four third graders in our community is overweight or obese.  You probably know that a healthy diet and plenty of activity can prevent kids from becoming overweight. Living up to that ideal in today’s busy world is easier said than done. What’s the best way to keep your child healthy?

First, it is important to know if your child is overweight.  Your child’s doctor can tell you if your child has a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI), the measure to determine if your child is overweight. You can also use the BMI calculator.   If your child is overweight, intervening now can prevent serious health problems in the future.  If your child is at a healthy weight, eating right and being active can keep them that way.  Five tips to get your started:

  • Aim for five vegetable and fruit servings each day.
  • Limit sugary beverages like pop, juice and sports drinks.
  • Expose your child to a variety of physical activities.
  • Limit screen time to a total of one to two hours per day.
  • Eat healthier and be active as a family.  Everyone will benefit.
You can view the complete study and see more tips at OCHD.
