TEAM SPENCER: Riverbank Run Events

Chad and Michele Sytsma, Georgetown parents, have created TEAM SPENCER…an event around which everyone from our school can support the Meyer Family.

The 5th/3rd Riverbank Run has two events and you are invited to participate in one or both.

The form attached below is to show register for TEAM SPENCER.

Once you are registered, the Sytsma’s will send a SPONSOR form which will help you collect money for the Meyer family.

Thank you for your support!  This is a great event to help us support the Meyer family and our Spencer!

AND…Mr. Kooiker has agreed to shave his head if we can get a large group of kids to participate.  Let’s shoot for 100 kids!  We can do it!

Colton Visits Kentucky

Colton had a great time on spring break. He went on trip to Kentucky with Harley and his Grandparents. They took a trailer and enjoyed fishing and camp fires when not sightseeing. The highlight of the trip for Colton was visiting the Louisville Slugger Factory where he they got to see how baseball bats are made and even got to see one of Babe Ruth’s bats. They also visited the Kentucky Horse Park and Shaker Village. They got to learn about how the Shakers lived and made their furniture.

Nine Weeks Remaining

Now that spring break is over, the school year will start flying by at the speed of light.  We have just nine weeks remaining…and there is so much that we want to accomplish!   We will keep you posted all all events via this main blog as well as the classroom blogs.

Please remember to check your child’s classroom blogs for updates about field trips and special events that come each spring.

I hope your spring break was fantastic!  Take some time to scan through the posts below to see how some of our Georgetown families spent their breaks.

Here’s to a fantastic week back at school!

Gatorland Mandryk Style!

The Mandryk family visited Orlando over break and part of our trip was a visit to “Gatorland”. There Cate and her brothers got to “wrestle” a real live alligator (more like just sit on one with a guy really close, but still really cool).

They also got to feed all the gators in the park turkey hot dogs. We also spent a day at the Universal Studios theme park, visited Cape Canaveral (where NASA’s Kennedy Space Center is) and of course spent lots of time swimming in the hotel pool.
We were very busy but had a great week together.

Need a Gadget? How about an Eggbot?

EGGBOT

Just in time for egg decorating, the Eggbot has arrived!  This robot (along with sharpie pens) will decorate your eggs and win you awards at the family Easter brunch.    I do have to say that this not quite the same as the bowls of dye and metal egg dippers.  There really is a gadget for everything!

If you want to be inspired to come up with a one of a kind egg, check out these featured eggs.

Wishing you a wonderful Easter weekend…filled with lots of colorful eggs!

Mrs. Brouwer’s Spring Vacation

I’ve been enjoying my spring break doing my favorite things around the farm – reading, making art, and visiting the farm animals.  We stayed home this year because there are lots of farm babies due to arrive and we didn’t want to miss the excitement!  We have calves due any day, sweet little lambs due in a few weeks, new fuzzy chicks in the barn, and the most fun of all – Bess will be having a new filly or colt very soon!  See you all in a few days!  Mrs. Brouwer

Missad’s Visit Dayton

Hot Tub Time
The Missad’s didn’t travel far, but did head South to Dayton, Ohio.  We were visiting the kids Grandpa and “Linda” (my mom died in ’04 and Dad remarried a year ago).  They don’t call her Grandma, but she’s a wonderful role model for them to have in their lives.  It was our first visit there, and we all had a “blast”.  We went to the National Air Force Museum in Dayton, home of Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the Wright brothers.  The kids were really amazed at the planes…and bombs.  They also enjoyed LOTS of time in the hot tub, which we didn’t keep to hot (they used it more like a pool), colored Easter eggs and had an early Easter egg hunt.  We cooked out, enjoyed making smores, and even got a little sunburned 🙂
We are sharing some pictures from the museum, the second one is the kids in front of a replica of the atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima and the plane that dropped it.
By the way, you really got them good with the April Fools joke.  We read it to them as we were putting them to bed, their reaction…priceless!  🙂

Parent Input Wanted

It’s that time of the year when we need you to help us prepare for next school year.

The  Georgetown teachers have already begun the important work of creating class lists for the next school year.  We thoughtfully and carefully place students according to:

  • Learning style of student compared to teaching style of teachers.
  • Academic achievement:  We strive to balance classrooms with a range of learning levels.
  • Relationships with other students:  If there are students who do not work well together due to personality conflicts and/or behavioral issues we will look at the benefit of separating these students.
  • Special needs:  Speech, reading, resource support, health related issues.
  • Behavioral/emotional characteristics and management style of each classroom teacher.
  • The personality characteristics of the student compared to that of the teacher.
  • Boy/girl ratio.

We would like to have your input regarding your child’s needs. Complete this confidential Parent Survey for Classlists 2012-13.  If you have more than one child, you will need to complete this for EACH CHILD.

The survey will be closed on May 1.
