A Snowy Week…Sprinkled with LOVE!

hallways
Our hallways busy with bundled up students!

We did it…we made it through our first week without a SNOW DAY!  We hope to continue this trend this week, too.  I know it’s time for winter to end when Mr. Rob aka best custodian ever is heard saying, “I’m done with the snow.”  This is a signal to mother nature because this man LOVES to plow snow.

If you want to see the soft side of Mr. Rob, check out Mrs. Stutz’s Kindergarten blog.  Mr. Rob was the mystery reader and surprised the kids by reading one of his favorite books by Mercer Mayer.   Scroll down to the photos found at the bottom of the post.

The week ends with a special celebration — Valentine’s Day.  Each classroom is celebrating at varied times throughout the day.  Be sure to check your child’s class blog for details.

Here’s to a great week….stay warm…and happy Valentine’s Day!

Moving into October, Week 5

We have had absolutely amazing weather to kick off the 2013-14 school year.  The first week of October (our 5th week of school) looks to be a continuation of this pleasant weather pattern….and you won’t hear complaints from the Georgetown team!  This nice weather boosts everyone’s mood AND allows for outdoor recess (rather than indoor).

This incredible weather pattern allowed us to have one of the most beautiful days for our WALKATHON.  It was held last week Thursday, 9-26-13.  We had many parents and grandparents join us as we walked around the track.  Mrs. Impens and her team created a festive and fun event for all 660 participants.  If you have not yet turned in your WALKATHON donations, please do so tomorrow (Monday).     We are currently at $7000…and hope to earn $8000 more so that we can watch Mr. Rob, Mr. Gort, Mr. Bowen, Mr. Bialochowski and Mr. Kooiker sumo wrestle for the international sumo wrestling championship!

Our school photographer, Malachi Hollis, captured some amazing photos of the day.  These are featured in a video below.

Our week ahead is busy with fire safety lessons, Vision and Hearing screenings run byt the Ottawa County Health Department for select grades, a pizza night AND it ends with our first POPCORN DAY!  I want you to know that POPCORN FRIDAYS are very popular elevating the popcorn poppers to hero status!

Week 36: May 28-June 1, 2013

mem day

We open the school year with Labor Day weekend and close on the heels of the Memorial Day holiday.  Memorial Day is our most solemn holiday — a time for us to remember those who have served and those who are serving today and tomorrow.

We have just 8 days of school remaining to our 2012-13 school year.  The days will be busy with final assessments for June report cards, field trips, locker and desk clean out.  There will also be field days and other various end of the year traditional activities.  Your child’s class blog will provide the most up to date information about these events.

Below is a snap shot of our event this coming week.  Be sure to visit BIGGBY on Tuesday from 6-9pm.  There will be several staff members serving as Barista’s!

Have a great week!

Week 30: Rain Rain Go Away!

As we head into the week of April 15, the forecast calls for more RAIN and possible snow showers.   We are doing all we can to build in movement breaks and exercise routines to make up for the lack of recess times.  It’s tough on the children to not have time to run and play so we are doing our very best to be creative.

The BMS Parent Night listed below is for future 6th grade students who will be playing an instrument next year.  If your child is NOT playing an instrument, you do not need to attend.

We wrap up the week with POPCORN DAY.  Thank goodness for our PTC and this special treat.  After two weeks of rain, this will be something fun to look forward too!

Have a great weekend!

Final Week of February

I took advantage of the sunshine today with a walk along the dunes at Holland State Park.  The panoramic photo above was taken with my iphone.    Can you spy Milo in the photo?  How about his small white friend, Cooper?  If you have not been to the beach to see it’s winter beauty, I urge you to do that sometime before spring arrives.

The week ahead  will go by fast for students!  It another four day week—teachers will be working on Friday to complete report cards and prepare for conferences, March 4-6.

We will be welcoming 2013-14 kindergartener parents to school during our Round Up meeting on Tuesday at 7 pm.  This meeting is for parents and is informational focused.  The meeting will run from 7-7:30 pm.  I am excited to meet all the new parents and begin preparations for our newest group of students.

Enjoy the sunshine today and tomorrow.  Looks like winter returns on Tuesday!

Settling into the New Year: January 14-18, 2013

We had a great first week back to school!   On Monday, everyone was excited to see each other—lots of smiles and hugs.  On Tuesday, the reality of rising early and working our brains all day long was evident with yawns and sleepy looking eyes.  By Wednesday, nearly all of our bodies and brains had adjusted to our school schedule and expectations.

This week we have fourth grade swimming (hosted at the high school), Marco’s Pizza Night and a PTC meeting.  To see other events, check out the snapshot of our school calendar below.

Have a great week!

The Week Ahead: February 8, 2010

The big highlight of this week will be Valentine’s Day celebrations in our classrooms, from ECSE to grade 5.  For vALdetails regarding Valentine party times, check your child’s class blog.

A reminder to all:  MONDAY, FEBRUARY 15 = NO SCHOOL. This is a teacher’s record day — time to work our second period report cards.  This is also a day that we prepare for Parent/Teacher conferences (March 2, 3 and 4).
