ONLY 6 weeks until Summer Break!!  : ) Not that we are counting or anything.

JUST WRITE T-SHIRTS……… Sorry about the confusion, but we have had many questions about the cost.  It is on the form, but a little hard to find.  These shirts are $15 each and you can make your checks payable to “Georgetown Elementary”.  Thank you.

MAY/JUNE  LUNCH MENUS………..  WOW… here is the last lunch menu for this school year!!  I have attached one here along with the deposit slip form if needed.   May-June 2012 Hud. Elem      Deposit Slip

SPENCER MEYER BENEFIT EVENTS…….  As many of you know, Spencer Meyer is a very special Kindergarten student here at Georgetown in Mrs. Estefan’s class and his parents, Jason and Jodi, are also staff members within the district.  Spencer is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and in March the family was informed that the cancer had returned in his spine.   The entire district is helping to raise money for the SPENCER MEYER BENEFIT FUND and we have a few things to let you know about.  These are great ways to help the family in this time of need!!

BENEFIT BASKETBALL GAME……… is TONIGHT at 7:00pm at the Hudsonville High School.  Please come out and enjoy the fun!  It will be DONATION entrance fee and there will lots of fun things going on.  They are hoping for an “ORANGE OUT’ for the Meyer family.  Please wear orange if you are able.

TEAM SPENCER…..  Don’t forget about the 5/3 Riverbank Run and Georgetown’s very own “Fun Run”!!  The “Fun Run” will be held next Friday, May 4.  Please make sure your student wears their “Team Spencer” shirt or any ORANGE shirt for this fun event!!  This should be a really cool event here at Georgetown!!  Sorry, the deadline for the t-shirts ended today, but any student can  wear anything orange on that day and they DO NOT have to have a “Team Spencer” shirt in order to participate!

COMMUNITY NEWS……….  MAY SCHOOL ELECTION………  On May 8 Hudsonville voters will be asked to approve the annual renewal of the 18 mill non-homestead property tax.  This is a tax on businesses and second homes, not on homestead residences or qualified agricultural property.  State Education Taxes  on homestead residences will remain at the 1994 millage rate. We are deeply grateful for our community’s continued support.  Especially during these difficult financial times, passage of the Non-Homestead Renewal allows the district to maintain the current millage rate for operational funding.  PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE ON MAY 8th!!

Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……..  We had a good week here at Georgetown.  Thursday and Friday we even were able to celebrate with a few Fall parties!  A few of our Pre-K and Kindergarten classes were able to celebrate before the weekend.  How lucky can you get?!  For the rest of the students they get to look forward to Monday to celebrate with their classmates and friends.  It should  be a great time.

PICTURE RETAKES………  Do not forget these will take place on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 1.  These are for any students who missed the original picture date OR for any student who wishes to have retakes.  IF your child has already had their photos taken and you are doing retakes…. PLEASE make sure they bring previous PHOTO PKT with them for retakes.

LUNCH INFORMATION………  Please see the attached flier that is the NOVEMBER lunch menu…..  november 2011 hud elem – less ink

SNOW DAY PROCEDURES FOR LUNCH……  With snow just around the corner, the food service program would like to remind parents and students about what will happen if school is closed due to weather. If the district is closed, the menu that was supposed to be served on the snow day will be moved to the next school day. An example: if school is canceled on Tuesday due to weather, Tuesday’s menu will be served on Wednesday and the menu that was
scheduled for Wednesday will be completely canceled.  Because of our computer lunch account system, there will be no need to issue credits and your student will still be able to order a lunch if they need one. The only exception to this policy is if school is canceled on Friday. In this case, Friday’s
menu will be completely canceled and we will continue with the regular menu on Monday. Information on what menu will be served on the day you return will be available on Twitter or the foodservice web page at www.jenhudfood.org. Please feel free to contact the food service department at 457-2400 if you
have any questions or are unsure of what the menu will be. Thank you! -Stacey L. Wykoski, Food Service Director

HOLIDAY PARADE…….  Georgetown had quite a few winners for the Holiday Day Parade Poster Contest.  Way to go Georgetown!!!  Our celebrities are as follows:  McKenna Tockstein (1-Woodring), Emilie Alexander (2-Quigley), Ike Irish (2-Quigley), Paige Gradowski (3-Flory), and Jessa VanHaitsma (4-Kooiker).

The Hudsonville Holiday Parade is coming to town.  It’s a wholesome atmosphere where families can celebrate the season close to home with easy, accessible parking.  Held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10:00am, this annual event is a festive time that draws a big crowd.  Parade Route:  Highland Drive & 32nd Avenue, proceeding north on 32nd Ave to Central Blvd.  The parade ends at the fire station where the children can meet Santa and his live reindeer!  Everyone is invited for refreshments.

DISTRICT HOLIDAY PROGRAMS………. Attached is a letter from our Curriculum Director regarding the schedule for all HPS holiday programs. Georgetown’s holiday program will be held on December 1 at Fair Haven Church on the corner of Baldwin and 28nd Streets.   We will hold two back to back performances, one for PK-2 and Grades 3-5.  In the past, we rented Resurrection Life for this performance.  This facility size permitted us to hold one program.  However, the rental fee is cost prohibitive for our 2011-12 budget.  We look forward to showcasing our students vocal talents on December 1.  In November, details will be provided about the exact start times for the program.  PLEASE READ THE ATTACHED LETTER FROM THE CURRICULUM OFFICE …..  Letter-parents (1)
