Thank you for such a great support of our BLUE/GOOD Spirit Day. We hosted the SUPER FANS in the morning in the Rotunda. The video above highlights the festivities!
The day ended with HEF festivities outside of Eagle’s Stadium. Many of you came out to support this event–and even took a turn at trying to dunk Mrs. Stadt, Mr. Ceglarek and Mr. Kooiker! Photos are in a special slideshow at the end of this post.
We have our final week of MEAP for grades 3,4,5 this week. The students will be taking Math (3,4,5), Writing (4) and Science (5). The tests are grueling — long and intense with our students putting their best effort into all the tests. Please make sure your child is well rested for these tests.
Have a great week! Remember we have another PIZZA night on Wednesday.
Georgetown has been a hum of activity for the past four weeks. Mr. Rob, our SUPER custodian and his team of SUPER custodians have cleaned and polished every surface. They have also been busy moving teachers to new spaces and setting up equipment and furniture for learners of all ages.
During the open houses on Tuesday and Wednesday, visiting children and their families were able to see all the work we have been doing to prepare every single room for the new year. It was great to see all of you….and truly, we can’t wait to have the building filled with the buzz of learning and friendship again.
New this year:
Sensory Motor Room located off the MPR (Multi-Purpose Room)
Resource Room located in room 410 (next to the library)
C.O.W. = Computers on Wheels (A laptop cart that will move from room to room to support learning through technology)
ALL DAY EVERY DAY K with Mrs. Bohl, Mrs. Estefan, Mrs. Iwema and Ms. Yankee
School Wide Focus on Hallway Climate: 4 S’s: Single Lines, Silent Walkers, Still Hands…and hopefully some Smiles
School Wide Focus on Anti-Bullying: BE MORE THAN A BYSTANDER. Bullying will be defined and strategies for identifying and eliminating bullying will be modeled across all grades.

Enjoy this video of photos for the week—district staff kick off, teacher training and open houses.
Have a fantastic LABOR DAY and we will see you Tuesday morning. The opening school bell rings at 8:45 am!
We started the day off with a time change and dark story skies. Most of the kids were covered in rain drops and they entered the building. This ended up being the perfect day for PJ DAY!
When I wasn’t in meetings or reading Love that Dog to a special group of second graders, I wandered about the building to take photos of PJ clad children.
Enjoy this video. And….go to bed early tonight to help your body adjust to the time change!
Each spring, we are required to share information with our fourth and fifth grade students regarding changes in human development related to puberty. These videos go through an extensive in-district review process to make sure the material is appropriate for the developmental age of the students and meet the state standards for our health curriculum.
The videos will be shown on April 3. The students will be grouped as follows:
Fourth & Fifth grade boys will view the video with male teachers, allowing time for Q & A following the viewing.
Fourth & Fifth grade girls will view the video female teachers, allowing time for Q & A following the viewing.
If you would like to preview the videos, please visit the Proctor and Gamble site, sponsors of the curriculum. At this location, you can examine the curriculum. parent support material and view the girls and boys videos. As always, our preference is that children feel comfortable talking with their parents about how their bodies are changing – and we encourage them to talk with you regarding questions that cannot be addressed at school.
If you DO NOT want your child to view the video with the grade level gender group, please call or email me. We will make arrangements for supervision for your child in the office during the Always Changing curriculum program.
If you have a child who is ready to enter kindergarten (must be five years old by December 1 of 2013), please join us at Kindergarten Round Up on March 6 @ 7 pm in the Georgetown Multi-Purpose Room. This meeting is for parents only. A special open house will be held in late August for the children.
The parent meeting will last approximately 30 minutes. You will receive information about registration and the curriculum program for all day/every day kindergarten (held at Georgetown) and full day/alternate day pre-kindergarten, held at Bauer Elementary.
This is a special video I created with the help of current kindergarteners to help welcome new kindergarteners to school. Enjoy!
The Michigan Department of Education developed a video to explain the new cut scores for the MEAP and MME tests. The video explores how the scores have been applied, how these impact schools and students, and the concepts of career and college readiness.
The majority of our GOT TALENT performances have been uploaded to our special blog page! You can view them by going to the upper left corner of the blog and clicking on GOT TALENT VIDEOS.
The performances by ALL of the students were outstanding! Thank you to everyone for your support of our performers and this production.
The students were surprised with the second annual performance by the G*TOWN DANCERS–a select group of dancers whose goal is to entertain and celebrate the learners they work with throughout the school year. Have fun watching this performance and all those on the GOT TALENT video page.
If you have not visited the KAHN ACADEMY as a resource for homework support or your own self-driven learning. You can also watch Salman Khan, the creator featured on a TED TALK, share how and why he created the remarkable Khan Academy, a carefully structured series of educational videos offering complete curricula in math and, now, other subjects. He shows the power of interactive exercises — and calls for teachers to consider flipping the traditional classroom script — give students video lectures to watch at home, and do you “homework” in the classroom with the teacher available to help.
We created a video that takes you from arrival in the morning, through learning activities in our PK-5 classrooms, lunch, recess and ends with dismissal in the afternoon. Two West Ottawa broadcasting students agreed to film, edit and produce the video with the intention of helping our sister school students understand a typical day at our school.
I hope you enjoy this video and get a sense of the wonderful parts of our school…the children, staff and volunteers!
WOW! The talent at Georgetown just seems to get better and better each year! If you missed the show, no worries…you can watch each production by visiting the GOT TALENT tab above. ALL of the productions are listed here for your viewing enjoyment.
