A Day at Geogetown Elementary

We created a video that takes you from arrival in the morning, through learning activities in our PK-5 classrooms, lunch, recess and ends with dismissal in the afternoon. Two West Ottawa broadcasting students agreed to film, edit and produce the video with the intention of helping our sister school students understand a typical day at our school.

I hope you enjoy this video and get a sense of the wonderful parts of our school…the children, staff and volunteers!

Many Thanks, Georgetown Parent Club!

Garden BallThroughout last week,  we were pampered by a team of parents for Staff Appreciation Week.  The week kicked off with a “star studded” breakfast which included a star walk of fame, movie feature posters (thank you, Amanda Troyer for your photographer editing skills) and delicious food.

We were also treated to lunch on Wednesday and Friday…in addition to notes of appreciation that mean more than you will ever know.   The gift cards and post-it notes were both such great surprises–and know that these will be put to good use, particularly at the end of the year when we are trying to make ends meet.

I have included a photo of the garden gazing ball that I received.  While working in my garden today, I found the ideal spot to showcase this gift.  This is the perfect gift for me…and combines my love for this school with my love for my gardens.

Thank you, parents, for all you did for us this past week…and all you do for us while we work so hard to grow your children as learners.   Mrs. Reagan and the entire Georgetown Staff

May 10: The Week Ahead

As a staff, we feel like we are racing to keep up with the days as they speed toward June 10–your child’s final day of school for the 2009-10 school year.   There is much to do, many events ahead–and like the children, we have feelings of excitement and sadness.

The schedule for this week is below.  Keep in mind that the week of May 17 is 5th Grade Camp (5-19 thru 21); week of May 24 is our Just Write Celebration and the week that we host our student teachers from Liverpool, England; May 31-No School (Memorial Day);  And…then we hit June which includes Field Day, the Raey Guang Visit, Reading Counts Party (gr 2-5) and much more.  Our final day of school is June 10, with a dismissal at 1 pm.

As always, stay on top of events by checking the school blog and your child’s classroom blog.  If you have a PK or K child, make sure that you have made adjustments to your schedule for the remainder of the year—dates were changed and we want to make sure all parents are aware of these.   You can view these date changes HERE

Recognizing Our Artists

Art Blog

Last week,  over 40 of our student artists were recognized at the district Art Show.  The event, I believe, was the best ever.   If you visit Mrs. Brouwer’s blog, you can see the pieces and points of celebration from the show.

Many thanks to everyone who made this possible:  district art teachers, student artists (who’s work wouldn’t make this event possible), parents, administrative and board support of our fine arts program.

Our art program has also been recognized in yet another way:  Mrs. Brouwer’s blog was selected as the featured blog of the week for the international Edublogger’s community.   Her blog was selected because of the way in which student work is celebrated–and for the use of the blog to communicate with parents, students and the world.  Announcement of this honor was posted to facebook, twitter and the Edublog community blog forum. Congratulations to Mrs. Brouwer and all of our artists!

Spring Carnival Donations Needed

April 16, 2010

Dear Georgetown Families,

Georgetown Elementary in Hudsonville will be holding their annual Spring Carnival on Saturday, May 15, 2010.  This is a favorite time for Georgetown families to join together in a day of fun and fundraising.

This year all proceeds from the carnival will be donated to the Lamers Family. This is one special family that is in dire need.  Currently, the Lamers Family is financially struggling with medical expenses incurred with their son, Brodie, who has Cerebral Palsy, a paralyzing medical condition.  This family needs to make accommodations to their home as well as purchase a handicap accessible van for Brodie. In addition to Brodie, Tisha and Matthew have three children to support. In today’s economy, this has been quite a challenge.

The Parent Club would appreciate a donation from ALL of our students.

We need for all students to bring in:

Baked Goods for the Carnival Cake Walk Game: K – 2nd grades

2 Litters of Pop for the Carnival Pop Toss Game: 3rd – 5th grades

All baked goods & 2 liters of Pop should be dropped off to the school office by Friday, 05/14/2010 by 4:00 PM.

If you have cares or concerns, please contact Susie Coxen 669-3662 or Stacey Alexander 914-6896.

Thank You
