Welcome Back!

I hope your spring break was FANTASTIC!  We will be easing into the week with a schedule that allows everyone to remember the routines and turn their learning brains back on!

Fifth graders will have a chance to pick out instruments for band/orchestra (more preparation for middle school).

We will also have a JET’S PIZZA NIGHT on Tuesday.  If your child’s class has not won a pizza night yet, this is the week to have pizza for dinner.

Have a great week!

Parent Wishes for Next Year’s Placement

We are busy preparing our fifth graders for sixth grade with tours, instrument fittings and informational meetings.  In addition, the teachers are already thinking through placements for their students in the next grade.

In late April, the Georgetown staff begin the work of creating class lists for the next school year.  We thoughtfully and carefully place students using current teacher and parent input.   In order to do this, we will use teacher and parent input.  Your feedback is provide by completing the  Parent Classlist  Survey.   All wishes/requests from parents cannot be honored…because there is much to consider to build classlists.

In addition to the parent feedback from these surveys, we also examine the following criteria:

  • Learning style of student compared to teaching style of teachers.
  • Academic achievement:  We strive to balance classrooms with a range of learning levels.
  • Relationships with other students:  If there are students who do not work well together due to personality conflicts and/or behavioral issues we will look at the benefit of separating these students.
  • Special needs:  Speech, reading, resource support, health related issues.
  • Behavioral/emotional characteristics and management style of each classroom teacher.
  • The personality characteristics of the student compared to that of the teacher.
  • Boy/girl ratio.

*If your child is going into grade 6 at BMS, DO NOT complete this survey.

This survey is only for children going into grades K-5.

Spring Break Plans

We had 80 families respond to our survey, “What are your spring break plans?”   As you can see below, from this survey most are staying home.  Of those traveling, airplanes are preferred and the most popular destination is SOUTH…where the sun is shining more than it is Michigan!

Some other hot spots to visit:   Chicago, The Corvette Factory, Tennessee,  Kalahari and the Grandma’s house in Ohio, Kentucky, Midland, Soaring Eagle Water Park,  and Traverse City.

Wherever you are during the first week in April, I hope it is fantastic!

Are you going away fro spring break?

How will you travel?

Where you go for spring break?

Georgetown Rap

Georgetown Rap

Written, Produced and Performed by Jordan Wolma, Josh Hoekstra,  Kevin Conkel

Everyday I get up and it’s off to school
I’m so tired I get there lookin like a fool.

I play on the playground ‘til I hear the bell
I fall in the mud and my ankle starts to swell.

But Mrs. Ripley- she’s got my back
She makes a call to mom and gets an ice pack.

Mrs. Reagan likes to post pic’s on her blog

If you’re lucky you might get to pet her dog. Milo!

Mrs. Vandeburg wants us readin lots of books
If we’re not doin our reading we get dirty looks

Knowledge comes in and goes right back out
I know that you know what I’m talking about

Georgetown 5th grade teachers rock it out
They know what learning is all about

Mrs. Burdis is the veteran of the bunch
If your work’s not done you can join her for lunch.

Mrs. Walenta has a thing for pooh
And when she asks us somethin’ we answer, “woo, woo!”

When I say “Georgetown” you say “rocks”
Georgetown
Rocks
Georgetown
Rocks

When we say “Georgetown” you say “rocks”
Georgetown
Rocks

Georgetown

Rocks

If I raise my hand and be a good sport
I’ll get lots of smile bucks from Mr. Gort

Mr. B. must think we’re the best class alive
He decided to stick with us from grade 3 through 5.

Those are the fifth grade teachers, and we know they rule
They’re gettin’ us ready for middle school

Mrs. Brouwer- art is her thing

She’s getting us ready for the art show in spring.

Mrs. Bretz works hard for Christmas program day
Hey-you might be singing Christmas songs this year in May!

In pillow polo we wonder if the teachers cheat
They always win- they’ve never been beat!

When we say Georgetown, you say rocks
Georgetown, rocks, Georgetown, rocks

Peace out!

VOTE: MAY 7

On May 7, Hudsonville Schools will be seeking the support of our community in two very important ways.  First, our non-homestead annual millage renewal request will come before voters.  The Non-Homestead Renewal request is something that is before our voters every year.  It provides approximately $3.9 million dollars of operational funding.  In a time where our foundation grant is back to 2007 levels, these dollars are vital to our programing for children.  Please remember this is not a millage increase.

Second, the district is requesting a renewal of our Building and Site Fund.  For the past 25 years, the Hudsonville School Board has been fortunate to use this fund to help facilities keep pace with the district’s growth, maintain important infrastructure and purchase land.  Over the past years, this fund has paid for fourteen additional classrooms, roof repairs on five buildings, replacement of boilers, and many other necessary improvements.  Please remember this too is not a millage increase but a request to maintain the current millage rate.

Hudsonville students and families are truly blessed.  They are blessed to have incredibly talented and caring teachers and staff members working with them on a daily basis.  They are blessed to have the wonderful facilities that contribute to a warm nurturing environment.  And they are blessed to have the support of a community that values quality education.  Please remember to vote on May 7th!
