Our Second Week

We did it!  We completed our first week of school.  If you are a parent of a pre-kindergartener, kindergartener or first grader, you were probably amazed at how tired your child was after the first few days.  Even our most seasoned learners (grades 2-5), may have been more tired as a result of rising earlier and the hard work that goes into following the school routines and learning.  Please take some time to watch our first video of the new year which is at the top of this post.

It was an incredible first week…one of our best first weeks ever.  Every single staff member was out and about helping with school arrival, hallway transition, the lunchroom and end of the day departure.  Georgetown truly has an amazing staff who are willing to do whatever it takes to help every single child feel safe and comfortable at school.

As we look ahead to our first five day week, you will see that a Parent Club meeting will be held on Thursday from 6:30-7:30 in our Media Center.  We will be discussing the ALL SCHOOL WALK-A-THON and other upcoming events.  The WALK-A-THON is our major fund raiser for the year and takes place on September 21 (MW PK/K/ECSE) and 22 (ALL SCHOOL).  Information about this will arrive home this week.  We are hoping that each family can contribute to this very important fundraising event.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Our First Week of School

We have preparing the building, grounds and classrooms for weeks and finally the day has arrived for us all to begin the new year!

Each Sunday, I will post a snapshot of the week’s events.  This snapshot includes the special day rotation (1,2,3) as well as all school and PTC events.  For specific classroom events, you will want to visit your child’s class blog.

I will also use the beginning of the week post to remind you of any forms that are due or details about upcoming events that you might want to keep in mind.

For those of you new to our blog, I have created a short video that takes you through the important features.  This video will help you learn how to navigate the blog as well as search for items that might not appear on the front page.

Here’s to a great week!

Week 37: May 31 to June 3, 2011

The official countdown has begun to summer vacation.  We have hit the single digits…with 7.5 days to go beginning on Tuesday.

I am hopeful that Mother Nature has had enough of the rain so that we can wrap up our year with as many activities outdoors as possible.

Please check your child’s class blog for details about the final events of the year.

If your child has medications at school, please stop by the office to pick these up

between now and June 10.  We are required by law to dispose of

left-behind medications after school is out for the year.

A snapshot of the week ahead is below. Remember…the most important class related events will be posted on your child’s class blog so please check this frequently.

Week 30: April 18-22, 2011

We welcomed everyone back from spring break this week!   It is wonderful to have all the children back at school….even if a few of them were longing for the sunshine they left behind (students and staff)!

I was greeting many of the students in the rotunda on Monday morning, when a pair of third grade girls, with their arms impossibly intertwined, approached me with huge smiles on their faces.  “I am so glad you are back because it was so quiet last week without you here!”  I said.  One of them chimed up with, “Mrs. Reagan, we only have 44 days of school left.”  My reply, given with a look of concern,   “Don’t tell me that.  I am sad when this building isn’t filled your happy faces and the sound of learning.”  Both of them paused and the other answered, “Oh don’t worry, Mrs. Reagan.  We’ll be back for fourth grade.”  And, of course, they smiled reassuringly, turned and skipped off down the hall to their classroom.

And I was reminded again why I love my life at Georgetown so much.  I can’t imagine a day without moments of authentic interaction with children each day….small and large.  I am always sad to have the school year wrap up.

As we looked to the few weeks ahead, know that they will go by quickly — with many important events taking place.  A snapshot of this week is below.  I included a preview to the following week, noting the April 26 ART SHOW at Park Elementary.  If your child has a piece in the show, our school open house is on Tuesday, April 26.  Also, in addition to the dates shown below, please remember to check your child’s class blog for additional events that will be taking palce.

I hope you are enjoying the weekend….and ignoring the snow that is falling from the sky!

Here’s to a great week ahead.

Welcome to 2012!

We welcome in the new year with our sixteenth week of school.  As you know, we end the calendar year with holiday celebrations and performances — often feeling like we are burning the candle at both ends.  The months of January through March are wonderful for settling into the work of learning and growing together.

This will be a four day week that ends with popcorn day!  Remember to check your child’s class blog for more specific information about class events.

Here’s to a great start to the new year…and a wonderful second half of school year!

The Week Ahead-March 8, 2010

The second week in March brings PK/K Round Up, field trips for select classrooms and more mild weather!   The mild weather means many things to a school staff, including but not limited to the following:

  • Joy
  • Decrease in winter viruses
  • Increase in lost and found items

Our lost and found is overflowing with LOST items, and the onset of mild weather will mean that it will grow as students wear their jackets/sweatshirts outside for recess…and then peel them off while playing.   We will be donating left over winter items to a local agency the first week of April.  Please make sure you have your child check for any missing items before spring break arrives.

Finally, our annual talent show will be held on the Thursday before spring break!  If you have a 3rd-5th grader who is interested in participating, check out the GOT TALENT post.

Here’s a snap shot of the week ahead!

Last Week of February

The week ahead looks calm—and a perfect way to close out this month.   I love that the days are getting longer and we are creeping ever so slowly toward spring.

Remember that Parent/Teacher Conferences are next week, March 1-3.  Also, we will not have school on March 4 and 5 due to a combination of professional development for teachers and winter break.

Here’s to a great week ahead!
